In our world around us many have found their identity in all kinds of things, in their occupation, in their financial position or in their cultural status or in the sport or entertainment personalties they follow. Recently our culture is pushing people, even children, to find their identity in a personal sexual identity they need to decide on. All these pursuits to find one’s identity will end up leaving one empty, confused and often lonely. Our Lord Jesus Christ came into this world so that we would be able to receive an identity that was lost to us because of sin. This identity as a beloved child of God was enjoyed by Adam and Eve for a brief period of time before they ate from the tree God told them not to. From that time every descendant of Adam and Eve were lost in their sin, seeking to find their identity in all the wrong things. We can be thankful that God showed His loved to Adam and Even and promised to send a Saviour to restore sinful people to Himself. We can look back and marvel at the great love of God in sending His beloved Son to restore sinners to Himself so that we today could have a restored identity as deeply beloved children of God. May we show our Lord that we live as new people; that we love being His beloved children, seeking to honour His name as our Father, living for His kingdom and desiring to follow His revealed will, the Bible.
This Sunday we can celebrate the great gift Jesus has given to us in the Lord’s Supper. He shed his blood for us on that cross so that through faith in Him and what He did for us we could be purchased and set free as His beloved children. As we come to celebrate the Lord’s Supper may we see He is still feeding our souls so that we will have what we need to fight sin and live for Him in the joy of salvation.
This past Friday, Lillian Brooker’s sister Susan passed away due to liver failure. Lillian may you and the family find comfort in the Lord as you grieve the loss of your loved one.
This coming Monday night the council of the River of Life church will meet to discuss the matters of the church. If you have anything you would like to address please let one of us know.
This coming Saturday we will again be hosting a Hoop-fest outreach basketball tournament in the Heritage Christian School’s gym in Jordan. All are encouraged to come out to either play or watch and encourage.
In our Sunday morning worship service we will be going over Romans 5:1-11, looking at what one needs to know and believe to be comforted both in life and in death. In our afternoon worship service we will be continuing our series in the Gospel of John. This time going over John 13:31-38 under the theme, Jesus gave Himself so that we can follow His command to love.
Blessings, Pastor Richard
